Egypt

Taking a Look at Egypt - Just a Bit of Background

Not a lot of people know this, but Egypt is the oldest tourist destination on earth. Ancient Greeks and Romans began the trend with their frequent travels to view the Pyramids and The Colossi of Thebes. Egypt has a multi-layered culture that embraces the ancient and the modern.

The Bedouin tribes still inhabit the desert. They pretty much lead a very simple life much the same as their ancestors did hundreds of years ago, living and sleeping in tents beneath the darkest, stary skies spanning across vast deserts.

The entire country of Egypt covers 1,001,450 square kilometres of land. Amazingly, 96% of which is desert. It's only fertile land can be found along the Nile Valley, it's Delta and a few scattered, stunningly, beautiful oases! (The type you might see in your hallucinations caused by dehydration and exposure to intense heat.)

Finding Your Way Around Hurghada

To make life easier for yourself. It's best to view Hurghada as essential divided into three main areas. The northern area, where you'll find the majority of Hurghada's budget hotels, is known as Ad-Dahar .

It's also the most authentically Egyptian and more modest part of the town with a traditional bustling souk full of gold, silver, spices, hand crafted goods, Egyptian cotton, perfumes and much more.

If you love haggling you'll be in your element here! Just make sure you don't under-pay for your goods - these market traders have to earn a living too. Always aim to reach a fair price. It's common practice to settle on 60% of the asking price.

The Sigala area is rapidly growing with a thriving mix of hotels catering for familly, couples, budget and luxury holidays. With more than 130 hotels and resorts to choose from, all competing for the best of Hurghada's beaches along the sea front, you'll be spoilt for choice.

There are numerous 2 star and 3 star hotels and dozens of restaurants to suit every appetite further inland in the heart of the town. It's worth remembering that the port for frequent ferry trips to Sharm el-Sheikh can be found on the Sigala area sea front.
